| Alliance of researchers to be set up GIS - July 02, 2010: A meeting to bring together some 500 local researchers in the fields of science, engineering, humanities, among others, will be held soon to enable the setting up of an alliance of researchers for Mauritius. The alliance will enable the establishment of collaboration among researchers for the sharing of critical information and experience. This was stated by the Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology, Dr R. Jeetah, at a meeting between delegates from across the Commonwealth and local academics at the University of Mauritius yesterday. The delegates are leading scholars and academics who participated in the third summer Colloquium organised by the Centre for Commonwealth Education (CCE) of the University of Cambridge from 29 June to 1st July in Mauritius. Discussions during the three-day conference focussed on the main theme which was Millennium Goals Revisited: Transforming Teaching; Learning and Leadership in Commonwealth Contexts. According to Dr Jeetah, the hosting of the CCE Conference in Mauritius is an opportunity to develop collaborative exchanges between the University of Cambridge and Mauritius such as enabling brilliant young Mauritian researchers to obtain the support of the UK University in advancing their research. He added that the alliance of researchers will need mentors from prestigious institutions around the world in ‘their challenge of doing research’. The Director of the CCE and Head of the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge, Mr. M. Younger, said that the CCE is looking forward to explore and develop new partnerships with higher education institutions in different parts of the world including Mauritius. Those endeavours would provide the opportunity to delve into new horizons as regards educational policy and practice as well as to help in the transformation of teaching, learning and leadership across the Commonwealth. |
